World defense spending has reached a record in history. RIA Novosti reports this with reference to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) in a report.

In 2023, global defense spending reached a record $2,443 billion. This is the highest level recorded by SIPRI. The top ten countries in terms of defense spending include the United States, China, Russia, India, Saudi Arabia, Great Britain, Germany, Ukraine, France and Japan.

Defense spending by the United States (916 billion) and China (296 billion) accounts for about half of all global spending in this industry. In Russia, this figure amounted to $109 billion, an increase of 24 percent compared to 2022. Ukraine is in eighth place with $64.8 billion.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that members of the North Atlantic Alliance should choose not to invest and spend on their own defense, but to help Ukraine. “Kyiv needs even more weapons,” he noted.
