Egypt Opposes Forced Relocation of Palestinians
Amid ongoing conflict in Gaza and reports of potential Palestinian deportations to neighboring countries, Egypt has made its position clear.
President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi declared:
"The deportation and displacement of the Palestinian people is an injustice in which Egypt will not participate and which it will not allow, as it directly affects the national security of our country."
A Threat to Egypt’s National Security
Cairo fears that a large influx of Palestinian refugees from Gaza into the Sinai Peninsula could destabilize the region and increase the threat of terrorist activity.
Egypt has previously closed its border with Gaza, concerned that Israel may attempt to force mass displacement of Palestinians under the pretext of security operations.
Call for Peace and Cooperation with the U.S.
El-Sisi reiterated that Egypt will work with Washington to seek a diplomatic resolution based on the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
Egypt has historically played a key role as a mediator between Israel and Palestine and continues to advocate for a two-state solution, which is backed by the UN and most of the international community.
Political Consequences
Egypt’s stance complicates Israel’s plans for potential Palestinian relocation and increases international pressure on Tel Aviv.
Egypt is expected to continue negotiations with the U.S., the UN, and Arab nations, insisting on a humanitarian resolution to the crisis without forced displacement of Palestinians.
