Egypt offered Israel, through its mediation, to hand over 20 hostages in exchange for a 22-day truce and a postponement of the Israeli operation in Rafah. This is reported byIsrael Hayomwith reference to sources in the Israeli government.

The government is already considering calling off the Rafah operation to gradually release the hostages, according to a senior minister who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The only opponent of canceling the ground operation is Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the publication emphasizes.

Earlier, Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said that Netanyahu could resign from his post if the operation in the city of Rafah is canceled. “If Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decides to end the war without a large-scale operation in Rafah to achieve victory, he will no longer have a mandate to remain as prime minister,” the minister said.
