BOEING SERVICE CENTER MAY OPEN IN SHYMKENT
The potential establishment of an aircraft maintenance and repair center at Shymkent airport was among the key topics discussed during President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s meeting with Boeing executives in the United States. The talks took place as part of a working visit and focused on expanding cooperation in the aviation sector.
Particular attention was given to the plans of SCAT Airlines. The company is considering the purchase of additional Boeing aircraft and is studying the possibility of opening the first regional maintenance center in partnership with the American corporation at Shymkent airport.
The creation of such a facility could expand the city’s aviation infrastructure and strengthen its role as a transport hub. The project would involve developing a technical service base, upgrading specialist qualifications, and creating new jobs in the aviation industry.
The meeting also addressed the agreement between Air Astana and Boeing for the delivery of new aircraft. Boeing 787 Dreamliner jets are expected to arrive in Kazakhstan in the second half of the year, enabling the launch of direct flights between Kazakhstan and the United States.
Boeing representative Jeff Shockey noted Kazakhstan’s transit and transport potential and highlighted opportunities for expanding cooperation in the cargo aviation sector. The sides also discussed training domestic aviation specialists and prospects for developing the country’s cargo aircraft fleet.
If implemented, the project in Shymkent could establish a new technological aviation service center, reinforcing the city’s importance within Kazakhstan’s transport system.
