Canada Imposes 25% Tariffs on U.S. Goods in Response to Trump’s New Trade Duties
Trudeau emphasized that Canada is prepared to take further action if the United States does not lift the imposed restrictions. If American tariffs remain in place for 21 days, the Canadian government will expand the list of taxed goods to include products worth 125 billion CAD ($86.2 billion USD).
This escalation intensifies trade tensions between the two countries, which have traditionally been major economic partners. The new tariffs could impact a wide range of goods, including metals, agricultural products, automobiles, and industrial components.
The U.S. administration has not yet commented on Canada’s retaliatory measures, but experts warn that a trade war between Washington and Ottawa could negatively affect both economies, driving higher prices for consumers and disrupting supply chains.
