Law enforcement authorities in London detained Swedish eco-activist Greta Thunberg in connection with her participation in a public solidarity action with the Palestine Action movement. The basis for the detention was the display of a placard in support of activists from this group who are under arrest and have declared a hunger strike.

According to British authorities, Palestine Action is officially banned in the United Kingdom and classified as a terrorist organization. In this regard, any public forms of support, including participation in actions and the dissemination of symbols, fall under the scope of anti-terrorism legislation.

Thunberg is accused of demonstrating support for a banned organization. A decision on further procedural measures against her will be taken after the case materials are reviewed.

At the same time, representatives of Palestine Action activists have initiated legal proceedings against the UK government. Lawyers are demanding urgent measures in connection with the health condition of detainees, some of whom have been hospitalized amid the ongoing hunger strike.

The situation has caused a wide public resonance and once again brought to the forefront debates about the boundaries of freedom of expression, public protest, and the application of anti-terrorism legislation in the United Kingdom.
