Polish Crowdfunding: Raising Funds to Buy Hawaii in Response to Trump's Greenland Plans
In reaction to U.S. President Donald Trump's statements about intending to purchase Greenland, a crowdfunding campaign has commenced in Poland aiming to gather funds to buy Hawaii. The organizers of this initiative decided to humorously respond to international news, demonstrating that such proposals can be met with irony.
The campaign is hosted on a local crowdfunding platform, with the goal of raising one million zlotys, equivalent to approximately $250,000. Organizers are confident that this amount is sufficient to acquire Hawaii and are inviting everyone interested to contribute.
At the time of writing, the total funds raised stand at zero zlotys; however, with 84 days remaining, the initiators are hopeful for active public participation. They emphasize that the primary aim of the campaign is to draw attention to the absurdity of certain political statements and to entertain the public.
Such humorous actions are not uncommon internationally. For instance, in Denmark, there was a proposal to purchase California in response to Trump's remarks about buying Greenland, organizing a crowdfunding effort. According to calculations, each Danish citizen would need to contribute 200,000 kroner to reach the goal.
The Polish initiative to raise funds for buying Hawaii is another example of how the public humorously reacts to political events, utilizing crowdfunding platforms to express their stance and draw attention to current issues.
