Vucic: Europe Preparing for War With Russia
“Serbia between the hammer and the anvil”
“Serbia is between the hammer and the anvil in the conditions of the approaching conflict. I will be glad if my fears turn out to be unfounded. But Serbia must continue to arm itself, primarily by strengthening its Air Force,” Vucic said in an interview with national media.
The president noted that Belgrade does not intend to participate in military blocs but must be ready for any scenarios. He emphasized that the main task remains maintaining neutrality and protecting national interests.
Military-political background
Vucic’s statement came amid growing confrontation between Russia and NATO countries. In recent months, European states have increased military budgets and conducted large-scale exercises near the eastern borders.
Analysts note that Serbia, which has historically maintained close relations with Russia, finds itself in a difficult position — between Western pressure and the need to maintain strategic balance.
Neutrality and defense capability
Belgrade continues to pursue a course of military neutrality but is intensifying purchases of equipment and modernization of the army. Vucic earlier stated that Serbia “will not be anyone’s battlefield” and will do everything to avoid being drawn into an international conflict.
