NASA Prepares Nuclear Mission to Protect Against Asteroid
NASA has announced preparations for the first-ever nuclear planetary defense mission. The goal is to destroy a 55-meter asteroid that could collide with Earth or the Moon in 2032.

NASA has announced preparations for the first-ever nuclear planetary defense mission. The goal is to destroy a 55-meter asteroid that could collide with Earth or the Moon in 2032.

Asteroid 2024 YR4 is currently the most dangerous object ever recorded. It has a 3.1 percent chance of colliding with Earth in 2032 making it the highest-risk candidate for a catastrophic impact. With a size comparable to a football field it could release up to 7.8 megatons of energy equivalent to 520 Hiroshima atomic bombs
