President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed the creation of a Central Asia Development Fund during the "Central Asia – China" summit held in Astana. He emphasized that the region requires far greater investment than what is currently available through existing international mechanisms.

According to expert estimates, the infrastructure investment shortfall in Central Asian countries amounts to hundreds of billions of dollars. Mirziyoyev suggested bridging this gap by establishing a specialized regional fund that would serve as a new platform for mobilizing resources and coordinating projects.

The Uzbek leader stressed the importance of deepening partnerships with China. He advocated not only for attracting more Chinese investment but also for facilitating technology transfer to support local industrial development. In this context, he called for the formation of a long-term strategy for an industrial and infrastructure corridor linking Central Asia and China.

The initiative envisions a unified framework to harmonize national development plans, prepare joint projects, and implement large-scale programs in transportation, energy, digital economy, and industry. According to Mirziyoyev, such efforts would ensure sustainable growth and enhance the region’s global competitiveness.

The proposal has been received positively — several summit participants expressed interest in the fund. Further discussions are expected within working groups and in bilateral talks between regional states and China.
