Orban: Germany’s Army to Grow to WWII Levels Under Europe’s Rearmament Plan
The decision to expand the German army is part of the EU's new defense strategy, aimed at reducing dependency on the US and strengthening Europe's military capabilities. Germany, as the largest economy in the bloc, is taking a leading role in this process, increasing defense spending and modernizing its armed forces.
In Orban's opinion, this military buildup may lead to a shift in the balance of power within the EU, as Germany has traditionally played a dominant role in European politics. Hungary, however, opposes the increase in military power in the region, believing it will lead to the militarization of Europe and escalate tensions.
It remains unclear how extensive the changes will be in European defense strategy, but Berlin is already actively increasing its defense budget, purchasing new weapon systems, and expanding its army. This has sparked debates among EU countries, some of which support the initiative, while others express concerns about historical parallels and the potential consequences for Europe's future.
