Russian President Vladimir Putin held an urgent phone call with Donald Trump, during which he stated that Russia would be forced to respond to recent strikes on its airfields. He described Kyiv’s actions as terrorist in nature and stressed that further disregard for such attacks would not be tolerated.

Trump, in turn, noted that Washington was unaware of Kyiv’s plans and did not authorize such actions. Beyond the issue of Ukraine, the leaders also discussed Iran’s nuclear program. Trump expressed concern and urged Putin to intervene in resolving the crisis, stating: “Iran must not have nuclear weapons.”

Russia views the negotiations in Istanbul as useful, but according to Putin, a meeting with Zelensky is not being considered. While peace memorandums are not on the table, the possibility of restoring bilateral contacts between Russia and the U.S. is being discussed. It is noted that despite escalating rhetoric, direct communication channels between the countries remain open — including dialogue between intelligence and military structures.
