Russia has announced a temporary ceasefire in the conflict zone from midnight on May 8 to midnight on May 11. The statement was officially made by Kremlin representatives. The ceasefire is timed to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in World War II and is set to last for three days. During this period, the Russian side plans a complete halt to hostilities.

According to the announcement, the ceasefire will be in effect from 12:00 a.m. on May 8 until 12:00 a.m. on May 11. During this time, Russian armed forces will suspend all offensive and retaliatory actions along the front line.

The Kremlin called on the Ukrainian side to support the initiative and also observe a ceasefire during the stated period. Russian officials emphasized that observing the ceasefire is a sign of respect for the historical date. They also warned that violations by Ukraine would be met with a response.

Russia has previously announced temporary ceasefires during the conflict, particularly on religious or international occasions. In some cases, such initiatives were used to evacuate civilians or deliver humanitarian aid. However, the ceasefires were not always respected by both sides.

The international community is closely monitoring adherence to the declared truce. Even a short-term ceasefire is noted as having the potential to reduce tensions and enable humanitarian initiatives. However, the success of the truce depends directly on coordinated efforts from both parties.

As of now, Ukraine has not officially commented on Russia’s decision. It remains unclear whether it will comply with the ceasefire or continue military operations.
