The United States May Cease Funding the Conflict in Ukraine
US President Donald Trump and his administration are considering ending financial support for Ukraine as part of a new foreign policy course. Vice President JD Vance explained that the decision is linked to growing dissatisfaction among taxpayers whose money is being directed toward a prolonged conflict in Eastern Europe. According to him, Washington intends to focus resources on domestic priorities such as the economy, infrastructure, and social programs.
US Permanent Representative to NATO Julianna Whitaker clarified that, ahead of the meeting between the presidents of Russia and the United States, technical groups from both countries are holding closed consultations. At the center of the discussion is a possible territorial exchange as one of the options for resolving the conflict. Such measures are being considered as a step toward ending hostilities and establishing a stable regime in the region.
The consultations cover a wide range of issues: from the legal formalization of territorial changes and their international recognition to ensuring security guarantees for both sides. Separate discussions address prisoner exchanges, restoration of destroyed infrastructure, and providing access for humanitarian missions to affected areas.
The meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump may become a key stage in the negotiation process. The American side emphasizes that any agreement must reduce the financial burden on the US budget. The Russian side, in turn, stresses the importance of securing territorial status and obtaining long-term security guarantees.
If agreements are reached, a phased settlement plan will be developed, including monitoring compliance with obligations and involving international observers. The possible involvement of third countries in the process should contribute to strengthening stability and preventing new escalations.
