Typhoon “Halong” Hits Japan’s Izu Islands
The powerful typhoon “Halong” struck Japan’s Izu Islands early this morning, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and transportation disruptions. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, wind speeds in the storm’s core reached 55 meters per second, with gusts up to 70 meters per second — equivalent to a Category 3 hurricane.
Local authorities urged residents to take precautions and avoid traveling. Dozens of flights were canceled, and maritime transport was temporarily suspended due to severe weather. Power outages were reported in parts of Shizuoka Prefecture and across the Izu Islands.
Meteorologists warn that “Halong” continues moving northeast, bringing the risk of torrential rains and possible landslides. Authorities have declared a high state of readiness in coastal areas, while residents in low-lying regions have been advised to evacuate.
Eyewitnesses reported damaged roofs, fallen trees, and flooded roads in several towns. Locals have been actively sharing videos of the storm, showing powerful gusts of wind and waves crashing against the coastline.
Weather services warn that the typhoon’s impact may persist over the next 24 hours. Emergency response units have been placed on high alert.
