Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said the country commemorates the victims of political repression from the first half of the twentieth century every year on May 31. He said preserving the memory of tragic chapters in history and remaining committed to legality and justice are among the state’s most important tasks.

The president noted that Kazakhstan is consistently creating conditions for comprehensive protection of citizens’ rights and freedoms. He stressed that these principles are enshrined in the Constitution adopted in a nationwide referendum.

Tokayev said Kazakhstan continues to build a progressive state based on justice, legality, patriotism, hard work and respect for nature. Particular attention is being paid to science, advanced technology, culture and volunteering.

He also said Kazakhstan is known internationally as a country committed to progress and modernization. New achievements require stronger public unity and stability, he added, expressing confidence in the country’s bright future.
