Malaysia Accuses Israel of Forcibly Displacing Palestinians
During hearings at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Malaysia accused Israel of pursuing a policy aimed at forcibly displacing the Palestinian population. According to the Malaysian delegation, restrictions imposed on UN humanitarian agencies, including the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), are part of a systematic plan to push Palestinians off their land.
Malaysia stated that banning UNRWA’s operations constitutes a tool of de facto annexation of Palestinian territory. Delegates argued that the denial of humanitarian aid, disregard for international obligations, and the blockade of Gaza serve as forms of pressure that drastically worsen living conditions for civilians.
The court also heard that humanitarian assistance is being weaponized for political leverage. Malaysia emphasized that, due to restricted access to aid and the destruction of Gaza’s infrastructure, more than 1.5 million Palestinians have been left homeless. According to the country’s representatives, this is the result of policies aimed at making the territory uninhabitable.
The ICJ previously issued an advisory opinion declaring Israel’s presence in the occupied Palestinian territories a violation of international law. Malaysia highlighted the continued disregard for this ruling and the absence of measures to implement it.
The court is expected to continue reviewing statements and evidence from other countries and organizations. The focus remains on adherence to humanitarian law, the right to self-determination, and the protection of civilians during armed conflict.
