Syrian President Outlines Conditions for Normalizing Ties with Israel
President Ahmad al-Sharaa stated Syria will not discuss peace with Israel until it fully withdraws from occupied Syrian land and halts airstrikes. Syria also rejected joining the Abraham Accords.

Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa has declared that Damascus will not consider normalizing relations with Israel until a set of key conditions are met. According to Al Arabiya, citing sources familiar with talks between the Syrian leader and U.S. Congressman Mills, Syria's primary demand remains the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from all occupied Syrian territories.
The meeting, held in Damascus, included discussions on potential regional de-escalation. President al-Sharaa emphasized that any steps toward peace are impossible while Israeli military presence persists on Syrian land.
He also demanded an end to Israeli airstrikes. The president condemned such actions as unacceptable and said that continued strikes make any normalization meaningless. These statements come amid ongoing regional tension and regular reports of Israeli attacks on Syrian targets.
Additionally, Syria TV reported that al-Sharaa sent a letter to former U.S. President Donald Trump rejecting Syria’s participation in the Abraham Accords. The letter states that these accords were signed by countries not under Israeli occupation, unlike Syria.
Syrian authorities reiterated that their position remains unchanged: any bilateral agreement must follow the implementation of international resolutions related to territorial sovereignty. Damascus continues to insist on restoring full control over its internationally recognized borders.
International observers interpret the Syrian president’s statements as a sign that normalization between Syria and Israel is not possible under current conditions. As of now, there has been no official response from Israel.
