Today, April 26, MAEK LLP, together with representatives of the Mangistau Regional Akimat, held public hearings related to increasing drinking water tariffs. The “zest” of the event was added by the first deputy akim of the region, who brought 100 buckets to the meeting.

The hearings were initially held in a traditional format. But an hour after the speech of the general director of the enterprise, Kairat Rakhimov, the first deputy akim of the region, Zhumabay Karagaev, decided to demonstrate how much volume one cubic meter of water is. For this he needed buckets. Thus, the zamakim decided to urge young people and the population in general to be more careful about the main household resource.

- We simply, without hesitation, buy still drinking water for 498-500 tenge. There are 100 buckets here. Of these, if you collect 60 buckets, then MAEK can produce this per second with its capacity. We are saying that the average tariff required is 398 tenge. I just want to show with my own eyes so that everyone can be convinced and visually see how much it is. We began to approach this “cubic meter” figure very subjectively. I call for rationality, for objectivity. Kairat Bolatovich has already said (note - director of MAEK) that in fact, some people who live in dacha areas, for example, use drinking water, said Zhumabay Karagaev.

He noted that local authorities are now doing a lot of work to use water resources rationally.

To a question from the audience: “MAEK buckets?”, he jokingly replied that they were not included in the tariff. As the first deputy akim of the region noted, the containers were temporarily borrowed from the store.

For the purity of the experiment, Zhumabay Karagaev wanted to fill one bucket with water from two five-liter eggplants, but people asked to save it: not to pour it out, but to use it for its intended purpose.

To a question from the audience from those present, “What is all this for?”, he answered so that the younger generation would understand what one cubic meter of water is and how important it is to use it rationally and carefully.

- This does not apply to the tariff, but we assume that when the construction of the WWTP is completed and 70 thousand cubic meters of water are purified and sent to maintain the water “mirror” at Koshkar-Ata, 70 cubic meters will be discharged there every day, plus we are now considering a public-private partnership project so that part of the water in the amount of 15 thousand cubic meters will be sent to the city every day in the summer, with the help of which this will be carried out watering green spaces. At the same time, we want to consider the issue with the antimonopoly agency, with the regulator, regarding the fact that those car washes that will be involved in this technological complex will have to install some kind of circulating installation or where they will get water from, that is, in the future, after a certain period of time we will be able to provide businessmen with networks, then we will raise the issue of closing it so that people do not wash their cars with drinking water, that is, we are calling for rational use,” said the first deputy akim of the region.
