President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev opened the meeting of the XXXIII session of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan online, reports the Akorda press service.

“Today the whole world has entered an era of cataclysms and Kazakhstan is no exception. Unprecedented floods are occurring in many regions of our country. Our most important task is to ensure the safety of citizens. For this purpose, the government is taking all necessary measures and appropriate funds have been allocated. Large companies and business representatives provide assistance. I have already said that now the priority task facing me as president is to restore houses damaged by natural disasters and return affected citizens to normal life. Therefore, I have given specific instructions to reduce previously planned international events in the country,” Tokayev said on Thursday.

He recalled that the Astana International Forum will not take place in 2024.

“Of course, this is a necessary and important forum for us, but it can still be postponed. Another thing is meetings and events that are of paramount importance for the well-being of the country. Assembly sessions were always held on the eve of Unity Day. Today's session is taking place against the backdrop of a difficult situation. But we need this meeting precisely at this moment, since circumstances confirm the enduring relevance of our main values – unity and solidarity,” Tokayev explained.
