Talks have begun in Abu Dhabi between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The meeting is part of international efforts aimed at stabilizing the situation in the South Caucasus. The negotiations are being facilitated by the United Arab Emirates, which has expressed readiness to provide a neutral platform for the discussion of key issues.

The parties arrived in Abu Dhabi amid ongoing tensions in relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The agenda includes issues of security, humanitarian cooperation, border demarcation, restoration of transport corridors, and the potential signing of a peace agreement. According to official representatives, the meeting is being held behind closed doors without press coverage.

The negotiations are a continuation of diplomatic contacts aimed at the final settlement of the aftermath of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Previous rounds of talks took place with the participation of the European Union, Russia, and the United States. However, the current meeting marks a shift to an alternative international venue, reflecting Baku and Yerevan’s interest in exploring new formats of dialogue.

At the end of the first part of the meeting, the parties confirmed their readiness to continue discussing contentious issues. The talks are expected to last for two days. Discussions are underway on the possibility of signing a joint statement or formulating a roadmap for resolving the remaining disagreements.

Officials from the UAE expressed support for the peace process and reaffirmed their willingness to continue facilitating the dialogue. International observers note that the choice of Abu Dhabi as the location for the talks could help reduce political tensions and create new conditions for long-term stability in the region.

The meeting is drawing close attention from the international community. The Abu Dhabi talks may become a significant step in Baku and Yerevan’s attempt to overcome decades of confrontation and move towards a sustainable political resolution.
