Almost Half of U.S. Students Support a Socialist Economic Model

The study revealed growing distrust among the younger generation toward market mechanisms and the corporate economic model. Students cited high social inequality, lack of access to education and healthcare, and a crisis of trust in major financial institutions as the main reasons for their sympathy toward socialist ideas.

Analysts note that interest in alternative economic systems has intensified amid inflation, rising housing costs, and declining real incomes. More and more young Americans believe that capitalism fails to ensure social justice and stability.

Nevertheless, experts warn that student opinions do not necessarily indicate society’s readiness for systemic change. However, the fact that nearly half of future professionals prefer a socialist model highlights a growing generational divide in economic and political views across the United States.
