Apple rushes tech shipments to the U.S. to avoid Trump tariffs
Five cargo planes delivered iPhones and other devices from India and China just before new tariffs take effect.
Apple has urgently arranged shipments of devices from India and China to the United States to restock inventories ahead of new import tariffs imposed by Donald Trump’s administration. According to The Times of India, five full cargo flights carrying iPhones and other products were dispatched within three days.
The move aims to stabilize U.S. retail prices in the coming months before the added tariffs significantly increase production costs. This is a temporary strategy to minimize the economic impact of the new duties.
Under the updated trade policy, tariffs on goods from China will reach 54%, while imports from India will face a 26% rate — making India a more attractive production and logistics hub for Apple. The company is expected to expand its operations in the region, shifting more orders from Chinese to Indian assembly plants.
As U.S.-China trade tensions escalate, Apple is accelerating diversification of its supply chains. Indian factories are already assembling iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 models, and output is expected to grow in the coming months.
Markets have responded positively to Apple’s swift logistics actions, but experts warn that ongoing tariff pressure could affect the company’s pricing strategy in the long term, especially in the premium segment.
