BRICS Condemns Sanctions, Calls for Peaceful Conflict Resolution

At the recent BRICS summit, the leaders of the member states issued a series of statements outlined in the final declaration. A key point was the condemnation of unilateral economic sanctions, including secondary ones, as inconsistent with international law. Participants emphasized that such measures undermine global stability and violate the principles of fair international trade.

The summit expressed concern over the situation in the Middle East. BRICS leaders condemned strikes on Iranian territory, citing violations of sovereignty and international law. They also called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza, accompanied by a demand for the withdrawal of Israeli military forces from Syrian territory.

Special attention was given to nuclear safety risks. The declaration stressed the need to prevent attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities, which are under IAEA safeguards. It highlighted the importance of strict compliance with international arms control agreements and the prevention of an arms race, including in outer space.

The leaders also expressed concern about the potential consequences of escalation that could lead to nuclear conflict. They underscored the importance of restraint, dialogue, and adherence to international obligations.

Regarding the conflict in Ukraine, BRICS expressed support for a peaceful settlement and hope for the success of current diplomatic initiatives. The group also condemned attacks on bridges and railway infrastructure in Russia’s Bryansk, Kursk, and Voronezh regions.

The final document reaffirmed BRICS' position on the Palestinian issue. The leaders expressed support for the creation of a State of Palestine within the borders of Gaza and the West Bank, under the governance of the Palestinian National Authority.

The next BRICS summit is scheduled to take place in 2026 in India. The participants confirmed their commitment to the principles of multilateral dialogue and cooperation aimed at strengthening international stability and security.
