Egypt’s New Armament Alarms Tel Aviv: Israel Admits Shift in Balance
Israeli military sources report a growing combat potential in Cairo — especially in the air and at sea.
The military publication IsraelDefense, closely linked to Israel’s army structures, has published an analytical report openly acknowledging that Egypt is rapidly strengthening its armed forces, causing concern within the Israeli command. The focus is on the qualitative enhancement of Egypt’s military capabilities, particularly its air and naval forces.
The report emphasizes the acquisition of modern French Rafale fighter jets. According to the publication, Egypt has already begun test flights of these aircraft, which “changes the balance of power in the region.” The latest Rafales offer long range, multirole capabilities, and can carry a wide array of weapons, including guided missiles and bombs.
In addition to air power, analysts highlight the strengthening of Egypt’s navy, including the purchase of submarines and frigates of European origin. Military experts acknowledge that Egypt is no longer just defending its territory but is becoming a regional actor capable of projecting power beyond its borders.
Amid instability in Gaza, along the Sinai border, and in the Red Sea, such military buildup raises strategic tensions in Tel Aviv. Despite the formal peace treaty between Egypt and Israel, the Israeli military is closely monitoring every stage of Cairo’s rearmament.
The report also emphasizes Egypt’s growing autonomy in foreign policy and defense. With access to modern Western systems and technologies, Cairo is building its own deterrence model — one that no longer depends on direct external patronage.
