Thailand is experiencing one of the most severe floods in recent years: the southern city of Hat Yai has been partially submerged after prolonged heavy rains. Water levels in several districts have risen from 1.5 to 3 meters, completely flooding the first floors of residential buildings, offices, and shops. Local residents found themselves in extreme conditions, with many forced to climb power lines to avoid being swept away and to wait for rescuers.

According to local services, the flooding developed rapidly: several blocks went underwater within hours, making it impossible to evacuate from danger zones in time. Authorities urgently launched an evacuation of residents, including tourists in the city and surrounding areas. Rescue teams are using boats, helicopters, and specialized equipment to pull people out of flooded districts.

Thailand regularly faces seasonal rains and tropical storms, but the current flooding has proven particularly destructive. Engineers note that the city’s infrastructure is severely overloaded under such conditions: drainage systems cannot handle the volume of water, exacerbating the disaster’s impact.

There is still no precise data on the number of victims, but authorities warn that the situation remains difficult. Water levels may continue to rise in the coming hours if heavy rainfall persists. Rescue services urge residents to avoid moving through flooded streets and to follow official notices.

The Thai government is preparing additional support measures for affected regions, including temporary shelters, medical assistance, and recovery programs. The disaster has already caused disruptions in electricity and communication services in several areas of the city.
