India and U.S. Begin Joint Exercise “Yudh Abhyas – 2025” in Alaska
An Indian military contingent has arrived at Fort Wainwright (Alaska, U.S.) to participate in the 21st joint exercise with the U.S. Army called “Yudh Abhyas – 2025,” according to India’s Ministry of Defence.
The Ministry of Defence of India has officially confirmed the participation of the Indian Armed Forces in the joint military exercise “Yudh Abhyas – 2025” with the United States. The Indian Army contingent arrived at the Fort Wainwright military base in Alaska, where for several weeks they will conduct joint operations with the U.S. Army.
The “Yudh Abhyas” exercise (translated from Hindi as “war practice”) has been held annually since 2004 and is part of the strategic defense and security partnership between India and the U.S. These maneuvers are aimed at enhancing the level of interoperability between the armed forces of the two countries, exchanging experience in combat operations under cold and rugged terrain conditions, and developing tactical coordination.
A distinctive feature of this stage of the exercise is its conduct in the harsh climatic conditions of Alaska. Joint training tasks include patrolling, live firing, emergency response, and coordination of unit actions in terrain resembling real combat conditions. This is particularly important in light of the growing role of the Arctic region in global geopolitics.
The Indian side considers participation in the exercise as an element of expanding defense cooperation and strengthening trust between the two largest democracies in the world. U.S. officials also emphasize the strategic importance of such exercises in ensuring stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
