Israel Informs EU of Its Intent to Continue Strikes on Iran
Israel's foreign minister told the EU that the strikes on Iran aim to strengthen European security. He confirmed plans to continue operations.
The Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs held talks with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, during which he stated that strikes on Iranian territory contribute to the security of not only Israel but also Europe. According to the Israeli minister, operations targeting threats from Iran are seen as preventive measures capable of averting conflict escalation and the spread of destructive technologies.
During the conversation, the head of Israel’s foreign ministry emphasized that Israel's actions are directed solely at military sites and infrastructure related to Iran’s missile and nuclear programs. He noted that the continuation of such operations will depend on the evolving situation and the persistence of threats originating from Iranian territory. The minister reaffirmed that Israel would continue to act decisively if the security of the state or its allies is endangered.
The parties discussed the current regional situation, including the consequences of recent escalations in the Middle East. EU representatives expressed concern over the rising tensions and potential humanitarian impacts of ongoing strikes. In response, the Israeli foreign minister stated that the actions are taken solely for self-defense and to prevent instability from spreading to neighboring areas, including Europe.
Israel’s claim that its operations contribute to European security prompted mixed reactions among observers. In several diplomatic circles, debates continue about the legitimacy of unilateral actions in international affairs and the necessity of adhering to the UN Charter. Nevertheless, Israel maintains that Iran’s activities in the Middle East represent a systemic threat requiring swift and firm responses.
EU representatives are expected to hold further consultations to formulate a stance on Israel’s actions and explore ways to reduce tensions. Given the ongoing instability, regional security and the role of external players remain central topics in international negotiations.
