Kazakhstan and China Launch Silk Way Star Music Show
Kazakhstan and China are launching Silk Way Star, a Eurovision-style music show for Silk Road nations. Performers from Central Asia, the Caucasus, and China will take part.
Kazakhstan and China have announced the launch of Silk Way Star, an international music project aimed at creating a new TV platform for artists from Silk Road countries. The initiative is a joint effort between the President’s Broadcasting Corporation of Kazakhstan and China Media Group. Designed as a cultural space, the show will bring together vocalists and creative groups from Central Asia, China, and the Caucasus.
Silk Way Star will follow a music competition format with similarities to the well-known European model. The program includes solo and duet performances, traditional costumes, songs in native languages, and will culminate in a grand gala concert. A key feature of the show is its emphasis on cultural diversity and creative interaction among participating countries.
The show will be broadcast on Silk Way and CCTV channels, ensuring wide international reach. Organizers expect it to become an annual event that attracts both professional and emerging artists stepping onto the international stage for the first time. Silk Way Star aims to provide a platform for talent development and foster cultural exchange.
According to Raushan Kazhybayeva, Director of the President’s Broadcasting Corporation, this is the first international TV show developed under the strategic media partnership between Kazakhstan and China. She emphasized that Silk Way Star is not merely a television product, but a tool of cultural diplomacy that promotes unity through music, tradition, and contemporary art.
The project has received high-level support in both Astana and Beijing. By building a shared media platform, Silk Road countries can present their unique cultural identities in a modern format. Through musical performances, the show reflects not only regional originality but also a common desire for dialogue, cooperation, and stronger regional ties.
Preparation for the first season will begin in autumn with national and regional auditions. The show’s initial episodes are scheduled for next year. Participants will compete in various musical genres and styles, with winners determined by public voting and an international jury composed of representatives from participating countries.
Silk Way Star is part of a broader initiative to promote cultural projects along the Silk Road. It aims to strengthen humanitarian ties, create new forms of international collaboration, and raise global interest in the region’s musical heritage.
