Russia and China Reach Agreement on “Power of Siberia-2” Gas Pipeline
Moscow and Beijing signed a memorandum on the construction of the “Power of Siberia-2” gas pipeline and the “Soyuz Vostok” mainline through Mongolia. An agreement was reached to increase gas supply volumes.
Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller announced the signing of a key memorandum between Russia and China regarding the construction of the strategic “Power of Siberia-2” gas pipeline and the “Soyuz Vostok” transit mainline through Mongolia. This agreement marks a new stage in the development of the energy partnership between the two countries.
The “Power of Siberia-2” pipeline will become the second major route for supplying Russian natural gas to China, providing additional energy security for the fast-growing Chinese economy and expanding Russia’s export potential in the Asia-Pacific region. The project envisages the transportation of gas from Western Siberian fields, ensuring stable and long-term supply.
At the same time, Gazprom and the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) reached an agreement to increase gas supplies through the existing “Power of Siberia” pipeline — from 38 to 44 billion cubic meters per year. This decision is aimed at strengthening mutual commitments and enhancing energy integration between the two countries.
The signing of the memorandum and the expansion of current gas supplies are seen as part of a broad strategic agenda between Russia and China to deepen multifaceted cooperation in energy, logistics, and infrastructure. The new project has geopolitical significance, strengthening the Moscow–Beijing–Ulaanbaatar axis and contributing to the formation of stable economic ties across the Eurasian space.
