The Supreme Court of Russia has officially lifted the ban on the activities of the Taliban*, which had been in effect since 2004. The decision takes immediate effect and opens the way for official contacts between Russian authorities and representatives of the movement.

Despite the lifting of the ban within Russia, the Taliban remains under United Nations Security Council sanctions for terrorist activities. Russian officials emphasize that the decision reflects changes in the regional political landscape and the need to establish direct dialogues under the new circumstances.

This move could have significant implications for regional diplomacy, particularly amid escalating tensions in Central Asia and the Taliban's growing influence in Afghanistan.
