U.S. President Donald Trump announced in an interview with Fox News that a potential buyer has been found for the American operations of the Chinese social media platform TikTok. According to him, the buyer is a group of "very wealthy individuals," although no specific names were disclosed. Trump stated that the identities of the buyers would be revealed within two weeks.

The American leader emphasized that the deal would likely require approval from President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China. He suggested that the Chinese side may grant such approval, which would allow the negotiations to proceed. No additional details regarding the terms or timeline of the agreement were provided.

The U.S. government has demanded that Chinese tech giant ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, divest its American operations. These demands are based on concerns over potential access by Chinese authorities to the personal data of American users. Such concerns have been repeatedly voiced by U.S. officials and led to legislative initiatives aimed at restricting TikTok’s operations in the United States.

Previously, the U.S. administration attempted to force ByteDance to relinquish control over TikTok in the U.S., but earlier negotiations failed to result in a deal. A renewed round of talks followed the adoption of a U.S. congressional bill requiring the mandatory sale of TikTok’s U.S. assets if the company refused to transfer control.

Trump noted that continued interest in TikTok from American investors and users makes the deal both relevant and necessary. He added that the current proposals, in his view, align with U.S. national interests and could address concerns about data security.

The Chinese government has yet to comment officially on Trump’s statement about a potential approval. ByteDance representatives have previously insisted that TikTok does not pose a security threat and does not share user data with Chinese authorities. Nevertheless, the situation remains dynamic, and further clarification is expected following the negotiations.
