Latest data from polling firm AtlasIntel shows a continued decline in U.S. President Donald Trump's approval rating. In April, 52% of respondents said they disapprove of his performance, while 46% approve. The net approval rating stands at minus six percentage points, compared to minus five in March and a slightly positive 0.6 in February.

The survey was conducted between April 10–14 among 2,347 adult U.S. citizens, with a margin of error of ±2%. AtlasIntel has gained recognition for its accuracy in the 2020 and 2024 elections.

The drop in public support is primarily attributed to negative evaluations of Trump’s economic and immigration policies. Once seen as his strong suits, these areas are now drawing growing criticism.

The poll shows that half of Americans oppose new tariffs on imports, while only 23% fully support them. Additionally, 64% believe the policy will fuel inflation and worsen economic indicators. Since March, the share of people rating Trump’s economic management as “poor” or “terrible” has risen from 48% to 56%.

Immigration policy is also under fire. In April, 52% of Americans said they find Trump’s actions in this area unsatisfactory, up from 43% in March. Public backlash intensified over reports of deportations without due process, including the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. The U.S. Justice Department cited an administrative error, though the administration accused Garcia of MS-13 ties—an organization recently designated as terrorist. His lawyers and family deny the allegations.

Another factor is the temporary suspension of tariff policy. In March, Trump’s administration announced a 90-day pause on tariffs for several countries, excluding China. According to AtlasIntel, this created uncertainty, especially as tariffs could return in July. Such instability, analysts say, erodes trust in the economic course and raises fears of recession.

AtlasIntel also notes an eight-point drop in Trump’s personal favorability rating between March and April. The agency highlights that the economy remains Americans’ top concern, and it is in this domain where Trump’s credibility is suffering most.

Ongoing legal disputes, including a Supreme Court order requiring the administration to aid in Garcia’s release and return, are further contributing to tensions. The White House says it will continue to oppose the ruling.

Trump’s approval rating has now entered a sustained negative zone. If trends persist, support may continue to fall—especially ahead of the tariff pause expiration. Political analysts warn that public reaction to economic measures, immigration policy, and legal controversies could play a decisive role in shaping the future electoral landscape.
