United Kingdom Tests Microwave Weapon to Counter Drone Swarms
The RapidDestroyer system successfully neutralized over 100 drones using radio-frequency pulses.
The UK Ministry of Defence conducted successful trials of a new microwave weapon system called RapidDestroyer. Developed by a consortium led by Thales, the system is designed to counter mass drone attacks, which have become increasingly common in modern conflicts.
During the tests, RapidDestroyer neutralized two drone swarms of eight units each and destroyed more than 100 drones in total. The weapon uses powerful radio-frequency pulses to disable drone electronics without physically striking them.
The creation of such systems is a response to the rapid development of swarm drone technologies, widely used in conflicts such as the war in Ukraine. The UK Defence Minister stated that these new technologies will provide effective protection for the country's forces against future mass UAV threats.
RapidDestroyer is seen as part of a broader program to modernize air defense systems. In the future, microwave weapons may be mounted on military ships, armored vehicles, and stationary facilities to provide comprehensive protection against drone threats.
