U.S. State Department Requires Diplomats to Report Anti-Christian Bias
An initiative by Secretary of State Marco Rubio aims to identify anti-Christian sentiment within diplomatic missions worldwide.
The U.S. Department of State has instructed American diplomats abroad to begin reporting cases of bias against Christians among embassy and consulate staff. The initiative, introduced by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, is mandatory.
According to the directive, diplomats must document and report any manifestations of anti-Christian bias — including verbal remarks, actions that infringe upon the principles of religious freedom, and instances of religious discrimination. Particular emphasis is placed on identifying not only external threats but also internal issues — within the structures of the foreign policy department itself.
The first round of reports must be submitted by April 22. A special task force will be established to analyze the collected data, organize it, and develop recommendations for further actions. The results are expected to form the basis for new codes of conduct and an updated State Department policy on religious ethics.
Marco Rubio, who assumed leadership of the State Department under the new administration, has previously declared his intention to combat religious discrimination both internationally and within U.S. domestic policy. His stance has received support from some politicians advocating for traditional values, but has also raised concerns among critics who view it as a potential threat to the secular nature of public service.
Experts expect the implementation of this initiative to spark widespread debate, particularly in terms of balancing anti-discrimination efforts with the principle of religious neutrality in government institutions.
