The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared a critical humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. According to the organization, since March 2, after Israel halted the delivery of humanitarian aid, 57 children have died from hunger in the enclave. WHO representatives noted that this figure may be incomplete and the number of recorded cases is expected to rise soon.

According to the statement, nearly 500,000 people in Gaza are facing severe food shortages and risk starvation. WHO warns that if the situation does not change, around 71,000 children under the age of five could suffer from acute malnutrition over the next 11 months. This estimate is based on data collected by medical facilities and humanitarian organizations working in the region.

The organization emphasized that the cessation of essential supplies, including food, water, and medicines, is having catastrophic health consequences, especially for children, who are the most vulnerable group. WHO called for the immediate restoration of humanitarian convoy access to Gaza and the protection of humanitarian workers.

The situation in the enclave continues to deteriorate amid ongoing border blockades. WHO representatives expressed concern that, without urgent international intervention, the death toll will increase rapidly. The organization also noted that Gaza's medical infrastructure is destroyed, and the remaining medical facilities are operating under extreme resource shortages.

International observers highlight the urgent need for political and diplomatic action to stabilize the situation. Lifting the blockade and resuming humanitarian aid deliveries are considered top priorities. WHO continues to monitor the health situation and support local health services within the limits of its capabilities.

WHO has called on the international community to step up efforts to assist the affected population and prevent further escalation of the humanitarian crisis. The organization stressed that the lives of thousands of children are at immediate risk.
