India has witnessed one of the most tragic aviation disasters in recent years. A Boeing 787 passenger plane, operating on a domestic route, crashed near the international airport of Ahmedabad. There were over 240 people on board. According to preliminary reports, the aircraft fell directly onto a densely populated residential area near the runway.

The crash occurred during the landing approach. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud roar, followed by a powerful explosion and fire. The aircraft destroyed several residential buildings, resulting in numerous casualties among both passengers and local residents.

Emergency services — firefighters, police, medics, and rescue teams — promptly arrived at the scene. The fire was brought under control, but debris clearance is still underway. People may still be trapped under the rubble, including residents of the affected homes and crew members.

According to Indian aviation authorities, the aircraft issued a distress signal just minutes before losing contact. The cause of the crash remains unknown. A special government commission, along with representatives from the aircraft manufacturer Boeing, will investigate the incident.

Local authorities have stated that medical and financial assistance will be provided to all those affected. Compensation has already begun for the families of the deceased and missing. A state of emergency has been declared in the region.

The incident has sparked wide public concern in India and beyond. In response, security measures have been increased at major airports across the country. The President and Prime Minister of India expressed condolences to the families of the victims and pledged that any responsible parties would be identified and held accountable.

Global aviation agencies and international flight safety organizations have also expressed concern. International experts specializing in air crash investigations will join the inquiry.

At this time, the exact number of fatalities is being clarified. Most passengers were Indian citizens, but foreigners were also among those on board. Several embassies have begun procedures to identify their nationals and provide assistance to those possibly involved.

Footage from the scene shows the scale of the destruction: demolished homes, aircraft debris, burned vehicles, and rescue operations underway. Many of the injured have been taken to local hospitals, with some in critical condition.

The investigation is ongoing. Official statements from the airline and authorities are expected in the coming hours.
