Clashes Erupt Between Syrian Government Forces and Druze Community
Following reports of government assaults on Druze towns, clashes erupted. Casualties were reported in Jaramana and other areas, with tensions remaining high.
Clashes have erupted in several regions of Syria between government forces and members of the Druze community. According to incoming reports, military units from Damascus entered towns predominantly inhabited by Druze residents. The escalation was triggered by the circulation of a voice message attributed to a Druze elder, which sparked protests and widespread calls for violence against the community.
In response, local armed groups began mobilizing in several cities. Protest actions were reported in various parts of the country, including Daraa and Jaramana, south of Damascus. These areas are currently experiencing the most intense confrontations between government forces and Druze groups.
Preliminary data indicates that two residents were killed and eight others injured during the clashes. Syrian government forces have set up additional checkpoints on roads leading to the city of As-Suwayda, considered the center of the Druze population in Syria.
The situation remains unstable. Military presence has increased, and movement has been restricted on major roads in the southern part of the country. International observers have expressed concern over the rising tensions and the risk of further escalation.
Earlier in March, Israeli military officials stated they were prepared to act in the event of threats to Druze communities in Syria. In the past 24 hours, aerial activity has also been observed in Syrian airspace, including drones and aircraft.
The ongoing developments in southern Syria raise concerns about a potential expansion of the conflict. The authorities have not provided official statements regarding the objectives or duration of the military operation. Information on casualties and the scale of the clashes continues to be updated.
