New episodes of armed activity have been recorded on the Thailand-Cambodia border. The Thai army stated that Cambodian units shelled the country’s territory using multiple launch rocket systems. Reports indicated that shells were fired in the Ban Kruat area of Buriram Province, but no information about damage or casualties was provided by the Thai side. Thai representatives reported continued monitoring of the situation and cooperation with relevant security structures responsible for border areas.

According to Cambodian agencies, the incident occurred after Thai military actions were recorded on the border. Representatives of the Cambodian Ministry of Defense stated that they did not take retaliatory steps and focused on monitoring the situation to avoid further escalation. At the same time, the Cambodian side declared its intention to use multilateral dialogue mechanisms.

Cambodia appealed to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations with a request to examine the circumstances and assess compliance with previously reached agreements. According to Cambodian authorities, the involvement of regional structures will ensure objective evaluation and prevent further deterioration of the situation.

Previous months were marked by attempts by the parties to normalize relations. At the end of October, Thailand and Cambodia signed an agreement aimed at stopping armed clashes. The signing took place with the participation of leaders of third countries, underlining the importance of bilateral settlement against the background of the regional agenda and the need to prevent new incidents.

However, already in November, Thailand announced a temporary suspension of the agreement, explaining the decision by circumstances related to the safety of servicemen. According to Thai agencies, an incident involving the explosion of an anti-personnel mine became the reason for revising approaches related to the protection of personnel in the immediate vicinity of the line of separation.

Analysts note that the current situation is developing against the backdrop of complex relations between the countries, where issues of territorial delimitation have repeatedly become a source of tension. Despite periodic negotiations, there remains a need for coordination of control mechanisms and information exchange.

Both sides emphasize their commitment to regional cooperation and participation in multilateral formats, but the nature of events indicates persisting risks of repeated episodes of armed activity. In the near future, the central issue remains maintaining stability in the border zone and observing previously concluded agreements.
