Guinness World Records has temporarily suspended the acceptance of record applications from Israel, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip. The restriction has been in effect since November 2023 and is related to the organization’s inability to deploy experts and conduct required verification procedures amid unstable conditions. Company representatives explained that confirming records requires the presence of official adjudicators and adherence to established standards, which presupposes accessible territory and the ability to safely conduct all stages of verification. The statement emphasized that the suspension is not a political decision but is driven solely by logistical and organizational factors affecting the work of international teams.

Information about the restriction gained broad attention after an Israeli organization submitted an application to register a record involving large-scale participation of kidney donors. According to the applicants, the event gathered around two thousand people, and the initiators expected official confirmation. However, the company rejected the submission under the current rules. Later, Guinness World Records clarified that the suspension applies to all applications from the listed regions, regardless of topic or nature. The company also noted that it regularly reconsiders the policy based on changes in the situation and the possibility of safe operations by certification teams.

Guinness World Records stated that it continues to engage with potential participants, informing them about current procedures and providing clarification on application formats. The organization stresses that the measures are temporary and will be lifted once circumstances allow a return to standard operations. According to company representatives, regular monitoring of conditions is necessary to assess risks associated with expert travel and compliance with safety requirements. It is essential that the record-verification process meets international standards applied uniformly to all regions.

The decision to suspend applications prompted reactions from officials. Representatives of Israel expressed dissatisfaction that submitted materials were not reviewed under normal procedures. Comments raised questions about how such restrictions affect regional participation in international projects. Despite criticism, Guinness World Records reaffirmed that it cannot conduct activities under conditions of logistical difficulties, lack of staff mobility, and limitations associated with infrastructure functioning in certain areas.

The company stated that it intends to resume accepting applications once stable conditions allow a safe return to routine operations. Future decisions are expected to be based on ongoing assessments of the situation. Thus, regional participation in the record-registration program depends on the ability to meet all requirements related to independent evaluation and the presence of official adjudicators necessary for confirming records.
