Family in Turkey Sentenced for Espionage on Behalf of Mossad
Head of an insurance company and his relatives received long prison terms for passing information to Israeli intelligence.
A court in Turkey has issued a verdict in a case involving espionage on behalf of Mossad. The leader of the spy cell was identified as Ahmet Ersin Tumlucalı, owner of an insurance company, who was sentenced to 18 years and 9 months in prison. His wife, Benan, received 16 years and 8 months, while his stepdaughter, Dila Sultan Şimşek, was sentenced to over 15 years.
According to the investigation, Tumlucalı collected and transmitted confidential information to Israeli intelligence operatives using a network of personal and business contacts. Operational data indicated that the family's actions targeted surveillance and intelligence gathering on Palestinians and Arab activists living in Turkey, as well as monitoring their financial and social networks.
The charges followed a multi-stage special operation conducted by Turkish intelligence. During searches, digital storage devices, documents, and technical equipment used for data collection were seized. The court found the evidence sufficient to convict the accused, despite their denial of guilt.
The ruling underscores growing tensions between Turkey and Israel amid regional conflicts. Ankara has repeatedly stated its zero-tolerance policy toward any attempts at foreign espionage or interference on its territory. Turkish intelligence continues to identify and dismantle spy networks linked to Mossad, including those operating through business entities and private intermediaries.
