India launched missile strike on Pakistani territory
India launched a military operation named “Sindhur”, striking targets on Pakistani territory. In response, Islamabad closed its airspace and placed the armed forces on full alert.
India’s Ministry of Defense announced the launch of a military operation under the codename “Sindhur”, during which the country’s armed forces carried out missile strikes on targets inside Pakistan. Indian officials in New Delhi stated that the operation targeted infrastructure linked to terrorist groups operating near the border. The strikes took place on the night of May 7, according to an official post from the Indian Army’s account on social media platform X.
According to Indian sources, the operation was a response to a series of incidents involving sabotage and attacks on military facilities in Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army’s post stated: “Justice has prevailed. Long live India.” The message was accompanied by a graphic bearing the operation’s name and military symbols.
In response to India’s actions, the Pakistani government closed all national airspace. Domestic and international flights were either cancelled or redirected. Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a formal statement condemning India’s actions as aggression and a violation of national sovereignty. Officials in Islamabad emphasized that the attack occurred without prior notice and without the consent of international bodies.
Pakistan’s armed forces were placed on full combat readiness. The Army General Staff declared the country’s right to “a decisive and immediate response.” Security measures were tightened along the Line of Control and in several key military zones. According to media reports, sirens were sounded in several cities warning of possible further attacks.
Pakistan’s Ministry of Information released images of damaged infrastructure, claiming the strike caused destruction in civilian areas. Independent confirmation of the damage and casualties has not yet been provided. International organizations have expressed concern about the potential escalation of the conflict between the two nuclear-armed countries.
The UN Security Council is expected to convene an emergency meeting regarding the situation. Several countries, including China, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia, have called for immediate de-escalation and a return to diplomatic dialogue. The White House stated it is closely monitoring the situation and urged both sides to adhere to international law and avoid actions that could lead to a full-scale conflict.
India has repeatedly accused Pakistan of supporting terrorist groups operating in Kashmir. Pakistan denies the accusations, insisting that India’s actions constitute aggression and an attempt to destabilize the region. In recent months, both countries have increased their military presence in border areas, accompanied by sharp rhetoric at the diplomatic level.
Operation “Sindhur” is the first confirmed military strike by India on Pakistani territory since 2019. That year, in response to a deadly attack on an Indian Army convoy in Pulwama, India’s Air Force targeted sites in Balakot, leading to a serious escalation and subsequent aerial dogfights.
Analysts warn that the current escalation could spiral into a full-blown conflict if immediate steps are not taken to halt mutual hostilities. Given the political instability and tense domestic situations in both countries, the risk of further escalation remains high.
As of the morning of May 7, Pakistan’s airspace remains closed, military units are on high alert, and the international community is preparing diplomatic efforts to stabilize the situation.
