Israeli forces storm UNRWA schools in Shuafat camp

Israeli occupation forces carried out an armed raid on several educational institutions operated by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) located in the Shuafat refugee camp in East Jerusalem. According to local sources, the military blocked off the perimeter of the camp before entering school grounds, disrupting classes and causing panic among students and staff.

Witnesses reported that the military used stun grenades and tear gas and conducted searches within the school buildings. Students were forced to evacuate classrooms hastily, and some sustained minor injuries. School representatives stated that the incident violated international norms that protect educational institutions even during armed conflicts.

The actions of the Israeli side sparked outrage among the local population. Parents and teachers condemned the violation of children’s rights to education and safety. UNRWA representatives expressed concern and emphasized that such incidents threaten the functioning of humanitarian institutions in occupied territories.

The Shuafat camp is one of the most densely populated areas of East Jerusalem, home to tens of thousands of Palestinian refugees. UNRWA schools play a key role in providing access to education for children from socially vulnerable families.
