Finnish Foreign Ministry calls for urgent humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza
Finland’s Foreign Minister urges Israel to halt evictions and ensure humanitarian access to Gaza residents.
Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen issued a statement emphasizing the urgent need for humanitarian aid deliveries to the Gaza Strip. She condemned Israel’s actions toward the enclave’s civilian population and called for an end to evictions, which worsen the suffering of civilians amid the ongoing conflict.
According to Valtonen, the situation in Gaza remains critical and requires immediate action from the international community. She stated that humanitarian supplies — including food, water, and medicine — must be delivered without delay or restrictions. She pointed out that thousands of civilians, including women and children, are at risk due to the lack of access to basic necessities.
The minister stressed that Finland supports the efforts of the UN and international humanitarian organizations operating in Gaza. She emphasized that adherence to international humanitarian law and the protection of civilians must be absolute priorities. Valtonen noted that continued military actions, mass displacements, and restricted access are putting tens of thousands of lives at risk.
In her statement, she specifically called on Israel to uphold its international obligations and refrain from actions that would escalate the conflict further. She highlighted the unacceptability of forced evictions, which she said only worsen the humanitarian disaster in Gaza. Humanitarian aid, she added, must be delivered freely and regularly, and all parties to the conflict must ensure the safety of humanitarian personnel.
Her statement comes amid ongoing international discussions regarding the situation in Gaza. Several EU countries and international organizations are calling for the establishment of humanitarian corridors and an immediate ceasefire to facilitate aid delivery. Finland joined these calls and stressed the importance of coordinated efforts to prevent further deterioration.
Valtonen expressed Finland’s readiness to take part in international aid mechanisms and coordinate with humanitarian structures. She stated that Finland will continue supporting diplomatic efforts for de-escalation and advocate for human rights and international law in the conflict zone.
