North Korea Launches 10 Missiles During U.S. Defense Secretary’s Visit to South Korea

The launches occurred in the morning and, according to South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, were carried out from coastal areas of South Pyongan Province. The type of missiles fired has not been confirmed, but sources note that the launches may have been part of a show of force coinciding with the American defense chief’s visit.

Analysts believe North Korea’s actions were intended to emphasize its military capability and demonstrate its readiness to respond to the U.S. presence in the region. The launches coincided with the Pentagon chief’s inspection of the Demilitarized Zone during his visit to discuss defense cooperation and enhanced military ties.

South Korean forces have increased surveillance and are analyzing the flight trajectories. The South Korean government stated it is prepared for any provocations and stressed the importance of close coordination with Washington to ensure security on the Korean Peninsula.

The Pentagon condemned Pyongyang’s actions, calling them “destabilizing.” A U.S. Defense Department spokesperson said such steps by North Korea undermine regional stability and violate UN Security Council resolutions.
