Pavel Durov Announces Opening of AI Lab in Kazakhstan
At Digital Bridge 2025, Pavel Durov announced the launch of Telegram’s artificial intelligence lab at Alem.ai in Kazakhstan. The project will unite Telegram with the national supercomputer cluster.
At the international technology forum Digital Bridge 2025 in Astana, one of the most notable announcements was made — Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov revealed the opening of a new specialized artificial intelligence laboratory in Kazakhstan. The lab, located in the Alem.ai building, will become part of the national digital ecosystem being developed with the participation of leading global and domestic companies.
According to Pavel Durov, Kazakhstan was chosen as the platform for this project thanks to already established cooperation. A year ago, Telegram opened its first regional office in the country, and now it is taking the next step by strengthening its presence in Kazakhstan’s digital technology market.
The main focus of the laboratory will be a joint project between Telegram and the national supercomputer cluster, created by Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Artificial Intelligence. This cluster was recently presented by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev as a key element of the country’s digital infrastructure. Durov noted that the cluster’s computing power will make it possible to introduce new AI features for Telegram’s billion-strong audience.
“A year ago, we opened our first regional office in Kazakhstan and we are very pleased with the results. With great satisfaction, I announce that today we are opening a specialized artificial intelligence laboratory in the Alem.ai building. First of all, we are implementing a joint project between Telegram and Kazakhstan’s supercomputer cluster, launched by the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence. This technology will allow more than a billion people to use AI functions confidentially, transparently, and efficiently. We hope that Kazakhstan’s supercomputer cluster will become the first major provider of computing power for this network,” said Pavel Durov.
The creation of the laboratory marks a new stage in the development of Kazakhstan’s digital initiatives. As one of the world’s largest global platforms, Telegram is betting on the integration of artificial intelligence technologies with a focus on confidentiality and transparency, which is particularly important amid global digital transformation.
For Kazakhstan, the opening of the lab means attracting additional investment, upgrading specialist skills, and forming a new technological cluster capable of influencing the regional development of the entire sector. The project also underscores the country’s growing role as a center for international cooperation in digitalization and artificial intelligence.
The laboratory’s activities are expected to extend beyond the development of technological solutions for Telegram, including joint research, the introduction of innovations in educational and corporate processes, and the creation of new services based on the national digital infrastructure.
At Digital Bridge 2025, other global experts and tech leaders also delivered speeches, giving additional weight to Durov’s announcement. Kazakhstan is visibly strengthening its status as Eurasia’s leading digital hub, while new initiatives in the field of artificial intelligence are opening prospects for building a global ecosystem based on innovation, security, and trust.
