Putin and Trump Hold Talks: No Agreements Reached
The conversation between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump lasted about an hour. According to Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, the key topics were the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, humanitarian issues, and the possibility of resuming negotiations.
Trump once again emphasized the need for an immediate end to hostilities. In response, Putin noted that Russia remains committed to a political and diplomatic resolution and is ready to continue dialogue. He recalled that during the second round of Russia-Ukraine negotiations in Istanbul, certain humanitarian agreements were reached, and their implementation continues. The Russian president also reaffirmed that Moscow will continue to pursue the elimination of the "well-known root causes" of the conflict and will not abandon its objectives.
Following the conversation, Trump stated that he was not satisfied with the outcome of the talks. He mentioned that the discussion included not only the war in Ukraine but also the situation around Iran. In his words, the negotiations brought "no real progress": “Today we had no progress.”
Trump’s statement highlights ongoing international tensions and the lack of consensus between the countries. Despite calls for de-escalation, political differences continue to hinder the development of a joint roadmap.
The positions of the sides remain opposed: Russia insists on its conditions, while the U.S. demands an immediate end to the conflict. Nevertheless, both parties confirmed their willingness to maintain diplomatic channels.
Representatives of international organizations, including the UN, have also previously called for the urgent resumption of talks and the search for a sustainable compromise. However, at this stage, no concrete steps towards de-escalation have been taken.
