Saudi Arabia and Qatar have jointly announced their decision to repay Syria’s $15 million debt to the World Bank. This move aims to restore Syria’s access to international financial assistance, which had been restricted due to non-payment obligations.

The decision by the two Arab states is part of broader efforts to reintegrate Syria into the international economic community after a long period of isolation. Repaying the debt will enable Syrian authorities to seek financing from international organizations and participate in global economic initiatives.

Support from Saudi Arabia and Qatar reflects a shift in Middle Eastern countries' policies toward Syria. Reestablishing economic ties and participating in international projects are seen as crucial steps toward stabilizing the situation in Syria and rebuilding its economy.

The World Bank welcomed the decision, noting that settling the debt would activate several programs aimed at supporting infrastructure restoration and the development of Syria’s basic economic sectors. Access to international funding is expected to stimulate internal reforms and attract further investment into the country.

Syria, which endured years of armed conflict, faces numerous challenges in economic and social infrastructure sectors. International financial assistance could play a critical role in the country's recovery process and in easing the humanitarian burden on its population.

Further developments will depend on the Syrian authorities' willingness to meet international organizations' requirements and maintain a course toward economic recovery. Saudi Arabia and Qatar have confirmed their intention to continue coordinating efforts to support Syria’s stabilization through regional and international initiatives.
