A second F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jet, based on the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman, has crashed in the Red Sea, marking the second such incident in recent weeks. The incident occurred amid ongoing regional tensions. According to CNN, citing Pentagon sources, the aircraft went down during a combat mission. U.S. officials confirmed the crash and reported that search and rescue efforts are ongoing in the area.

Preliminary reports indicate that U.S. Navy helicopters were dispatched to the crash site. One of the helicopters located and evacuated two pilots who were aboard. Both pilots sustained injuries of varying severity but survived. Their condition is reported as stable. The wreckage has not yet been recovered, and efforts to locate and retrieve it continue.

This incident marks the second loss of U.S. military aircraft in the Red Sea in recent weeks. Observers note rising risks for U.S. military operations in the conflict zone. The Red Sea remains one of the most tense areas, where ongoing hostilities and drone and missile strikes on sea and air targets are reported regularly.

Simultaneously, attacks on U.S. military assets in the region by Yemen’s Ansar Allah movement continue. In recent weeks, the number of drone-related incidents targeting U.S. equipment and infrastructure has surged. Open sources report hits on reconnaissance and combat drones, as well as attempted interceptions of aircraft.

Analysts emphasize that the growing activity of Yemeni armed groups, operating in difficult terrain with limited resources, raises questions about the sustainability and effectiveness of U.S. presence in the region. Public attention is also increasing regarding the losses faced by U.S. forces in high-risk areas, including the Red Sea and adjacent territories.

The U.S. Central Command has not yet commented on the details of the latest incident. The nature of the mission being carried out by the downed fighter jet also remains undisclosed. Military experts suggest that such incidents could influence future decisions about the scope of U.S. presence in the Middle East.

At the same time, international discussions are underway regarding the need to reassess strategic military deployment in conflict zones. The growing technological capabilities of armed groups using modern strike tools pose new threats to conventionally equipped armies, including NATO and its allies.

Amid increasing tensions in the Red Sea and surrounding regions, the United States continues to strengthen security measures and deploy additional forces to the Gulf area. However, risks remain due to unpredictable attacks and the unstable situation. Pentagon officials emphasize that control over air and sea space remains a top priority, despite technical and tactical challenges.
