Sudan rejected US mediation due to UAE participation in the Quartet
The head of Sudan’s Sovereign Council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan refused to accept the US ceasefire plan, calling it unacceptable due to the UAE’s inclusion among the mediators. Sudan accused the Emirates of supporting RSF rebels and stated that such a negotiation format is impossible.
Sudanese leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan rejected the latest US initiative on a ceasefire and called the proposed document "the worst ever presented". According to al-Burhan, the mediation format proposed by Washington is completely unacceptable because of the UAE’s presence in the Quartet. This group consists of the United States, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the Emirates, who are supposed to organize negotiations between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Al-Burhan stressed that the UAE openly supports the rebels, and that the entire world, as he stated, has witnessed their actions against the Sudanese state.
The head of the Sovereign Council also accused US President's advisor Massad Boulos of attempting to impose a plan on Sudan that implies weakening the armed forces, dissolving security services and preserving RSF positions. He called this approach a form of pressure that could undermine the country’s stability and said that Boulos is becoming an obstacle to peace.
At the same time, Sudan expressed support for the initiative of Saudi Arabia proposed by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Al-Burhan noted that the Saudi position reflects the real interests of the region and takes into account the security of the Red Sea. The Sudanese leader emphasized that Sudan welcomes Riyadh’s participation in negotiations but is categorically opposed to the UAE being involved in the settlement process.
